The law allows people to live in a relatively peaceful and safe environment. With the use of law disputes and disagreements are settled in a civilized and formal manner inside a court. In Canada we follow the Rule of Law (a three part principle to the judicial system). Rule number one states that all individuals must recognize and accept that the law is a necessary procedure to maintain society. The second rule states that all laws apply equally to everyone even those in power. No one is greater than the law. The final rule states that no one has the authority to unlawfully exercise unrestricted power or take away the rights of a person unless it is in conformance with the law.
